Mental, manual and forced labour

The “Mental, manual and forced labour” station covers the different work carried out in Peenemünde, including aspects of intellectual work at the Army Research Centre, as well as work undertaken by those responsible for managing construction. It goes without saying that without the physical work undertaken by voluntary and paid workers, there would have been no institution of this kind. The opposite of voluntary work is forced labour, and without it, no rockets would ever have left Peenemünde. People from across Europe were forced to manufacture weapons designed to injure and kill their own population. At this station, we want to share and explain various perspectives from prisoners, but also from Germans, so that pupils can better understand the different fates faced by the people working at Peenemünde.
